Here are my top 5 WORST MOVIES of this year. I decided to go with the high profile projects only. Let's begin.
5. Star Wars: Clone Wars - Now, some of know that I'm an avid STAR WARS (old school) fan. But this obvious ploy to make cash for CRAZY GEORGE was an insult. From the animation(or whatever they call it) to the story was just plain awful. I was happy that the series (basically this movie was three episodes put together) never caught on and vanished in oblivion. Thanks George for your continued rape of my childhood.
4. Kung Fu Panda - Take no offense when I say, that anyone over the age of 5 that liked this movie is retarded. This was the most overrated, unfunny, boring. . .did I say overrated? movie of 2008! I don't get how this movie was a hit, and you know they're making a sequel to this crap. They had all the right elements with the cast and story, except for Jack Black. (BTW- Isn't he and Seth Rogen getting on your nerves?) Anyway, they were all dressed up, with nowhere to go. Another example of a great idea with the wrong execution.
3. The Love Guru - I'll say no more.
2. The Spirit - Now, I should have known better. The first Trailer from this movie, is the WORST trailer ever made. But it has Sam Jackson, right?. . . . .WRONG. It has a inept director with an awesome Director Of Photography. MAN, THAT HURTS! I won't go into my personal feelings about Frank Miller, but he didn't direct any of 'Sin City'. I can't believe LIONSGATE (The lousy studio) actually released that poop. Wait, they released that 'PUNISHER MOVIE' early. Nevermind. The movie looks good, the Ladies look good. That's it. Watch the movie with the sound off, cause the rest is like having 15 root canals. I swear to god, if Frank Miller does Buck Rodgers (rumored to be his next gig) I'm quitting filmmaking.
1. The Happening - Ok, this is a no-brainer. Since the 3rd act of Signs, M. Night's filmmaking skills have begun to waiver. For any other filmmaker, this movie would be a career ender. But this is the man who made, The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable! I went into this movie ignoring the nay-sayers, I went in with an open mind 'It can't be that bad'. Oh Lord, it was that bad! He must have had one of his kids direct that movie or something. I can't name one good thing about that movie, not one! The story, stupid. . oohhh, afraid of trees? GET THE f**k OUTTA HERE! The acting, boring. Was that Mark Wahlberg or a CARDBOARD BOX? He couldn't even make Philly look cool this time around. I think this was a wake up call for M. Night. He started to believe his own hype. He's always been thingyy (in a good way), but I think he began to think that whatever he releases will be gold. His last three we're not BOX OFFICE HITS. Night needs to chill out for awhile. get the creative juices flowing again. Then come back kicking ass! I can only hope, but he's already started work on his next. (Think it's based on a cartoon or something) SPY KIDS, M. Night style?
Overall, this whole year was filled with mediocre Movies, TV and Music. American's have run out of ideas and creativity (except those few in the Independent Realm). Even though 2009 is going to be the worst economic time in our history. I hope that I'm at least entertained on the downward spiral.
That's it. I have a Best of 2008. But those are boring, so I won't put that up. HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
